An Eventful Day

Today has been a day full of surprises. Mostly bad surprises. This morning, I drove out to my Dad's house with the kids. I was meeting a friend there who was going to buy his foosball table.  I got Annika out of the car and considered leaving Benson in since he was sleeping and it would just be a few minutes. After I closed Annika's door, I decided that I was going to bring Benson inside.  As I walked around the van, I heard the doors lock. Oh noooo! My 4 month old baby was locked in the van. Apparently, the doors lock automatically after a few minutes. Thankfully, today was an overcast, cool temp day. I would have broken the window to get him out if it was hot. He was asleep when I got out of the van, so I was thinking he would probably sleep for another 30 min at least. I helped my friend load up the foosball table (and by help, I mean we watched the missionaries carry and lift. so glad they were home!). After she left, I called David's classroom to see if he might be able to bring his keys out. He was unable to. So, he sent the keys to the main office and my friend who bought the table picked them up. Unfortunately, Benson woke up while I was making those phone calls. He ended up crying for almost 20 minutes before I had keys to get him out. It was AWFUL! That is one of the worst feelings ever! As soon as I opened his door, he stopped crying and looked surprised and happy to see me. My poor baby! I brought him inside and gave him a million kisses while I held him and apologized several times.
My second surprise of the day was not in the scary category like the anecdote above. I will put it in the annoying category. It all started when my dad was leaving our house after lunch. He told Annika he was going to pick her up after her nap and bring her out to his house. This is something that she loves. I put her down for her nap soon after he left and for the next 45 minutes I heard "house, house, house! Pop, pop! (Grandpa) Mom, mom, mom! Walk, walk, walk!". I went in to her room once when she threw her binkies and once when she had a serious sneeze and was calling for me to wipe her nose. She wanted more "mook" (milk) when I went in to wipe her nose and I thought that might quiet her down for a nap (don't worry. it didn't). Other than that, I was just going to let her talk herself to sleep, which she has been doing lately but never for this long! After the 45 minute mark, she was starting to quiet down before I heard her yelling "mom, mom, mom!". I went in there to find her pants and diaper had been removed.  There was a neat pile of poop on her favorite blanket. She was freaking out, as she had never seen poop exit her body. I can understand how that would be a scary first encounter with poop outside the diaper. I got things cleaned up. In the meantime, Benson woke up from her previous screaming and crying. I put her back in her crib. She was still freaking out. I sang some songs and left her to it, hoping she would eventually fall asleep. She talked for another 5 or 10 minutes and then she did fall asleep.  That was two hours ago, and she's still asleep. I'm happy she is finally getting a nap and I'm getting a break.
Tonight we're going to Glenn and Kathy's for chicken pot pie and to watch the BYU game.  My dad is going to join us. I am praying for an uneventful evening. I don't think I can handle any more unfortunate surprises. I love my babies, but not all this drama!
