Kids Say and Do

Today was a fun Saturday. David and I (mostly David) measured and cut wood for some shelves we're building for the end of the hallway upstairs. We are going to store our games, which are currently stored in three locations, and our linens there. We have mountain of blankets in the basement and I'm hoping there will be room for those too. So that was this morning.
After nap time (Macy and Tyson both took 1.5-2 hour naps!) we all went outside to play kickball. Then David decided we should have a fire. And that led to the kids asking if we could roast hot dogs. While they were getting the wood ready, David asked me to go get the lighter inside. After a few minutes out there David said "I thought Mom said she was getting the lighter." Esther replied "Maybe she forgot. She forgets a lot of things." I'm choosing to laugh that one off. :)

Esther is very emotional these days. I think she's getting enough sleep. She sleeps in until 8 most days. But she cries often for trivial reasons. Well I'm sure in her mind, not being able to watch PJ Masks during quiet time because the iPad wasn't working is a big deal. Poor thing had to sit next to Annika and watch a different show with her on the tablet. :) Esther loves it when we read books to her. She'll bring a stack of 15 books and hope we get through all of them. I would love to read her that many books sometimes. But we usually just have a chance to read 2 or 3. Some of her favorites right now are "Sitka Rose," Peppa Pig, and Pinkalicious. She loves look and find books too. She's been loving homeschool for pre-K. The other day, she was really upset about something. She finally said, "I'm going outside!" She went to grab her coat and instead came back with her preschool workbook, which is in a bag next to her coat. She brought it to me and asked me to help her with a worksheet. I contained my pleasant surprise at her change of mood as I helped her. She also loves music from Frozen 2. She loves to put on the Elsa dress and sing to us "ahhh ah ah ah" in her best Elsa singing voice. It's pretty cute. I'm not looking forward to sending her to school all day this fall. But who knows what will be happening this fall. Maybe the pandemic will still be in full swing and school will be weird. In which case, I will homeschool again. I'm feeling torn about sending the kids to school. I've enjoyed homeschool a thousand times more than I expected. It's been so rewarding to learn along side them and watch them progress.

I gave Tyson a small Book of Mormon to be his very own. He calls it his "Mormon God-y." I should probably correct him soon. :) He has been into make believe play for several months now. My favorite is when he packs a bag with random items, sits on the bench, and says "I'm going to Wobuhton." haha I love his fun imagination.

Yesterday, I was getting ready for the day when Tyson came in my bathroom, climbed up to sit by the sink, and started combing his hair. After every few strokes, he looked in the mirror again and announced "I'm handsome again." He also calls himself "hawesome." He calls Annika "Han-ka." He calls Macy his little chubbers (he's heard us calling her that). This morning he sat by her and said "Macy is haweseome. Macy a cutie pie. She frying to get me 'gain!" I just love the way he talks.

Benson was looking at some clothes online and asked me "why do people like tanker tops?" haha I corrected him but he still called them tanker tops today. Well, I tried. And now I'm just going to enjoy hearing him say tanker tops. He looks at his reflection in the mirror or window every chance he gets. He loves to make funny faces and say goofy things while watching himself. Three days ago, I found him reading a book out loud to himself for the first time! It was Calvin and Hobbes, but I'm still proud of him. :) I love watching him run football routes with David in the basement and the backyard. He's also really into games on the iPad. Kingdom Rush and Plants vs. Zombies are his favorites. We limit him to 20 minutes a day along with his 1.5 hours of movie time.  I'm floored that he'll be getting baptized in four months. He's a tender hearted boy. I'm often caught off guard when he thanks me for small things I didn't think he noticed like: "thanks for putting my watch in my room, mom."

Annika is still a reading maniac. She's really into the Green Ember series right now. She's an amazing big sister and oldest daughter. I appreciate her patience, humility, and positive attitude so much in our home. She is our peace maker. Macy likes to be held by Annika best out of all her siblings. I'm sure it's partly because Annika is bigger and Macy feels safer. But I think it's also because Annika is so calm. Annika still loves everything Harry Potter. She and Benson have been playing backyard quidditch with their friends. :) We're having a big quidditch match next week with 3 other families. We have hula hoops for the goals.  Last weekend, she came upstairs and said "Mom and dad, you have won parents of the month for December 2020. You've won a trip to Rome, Italy!" She made us passports, had Jasmine and Esther stamp them, and arranged chairs in the living room for our flight. Pilot Pass and Co-Pilot Pamala (Esther) flew us there. She even gave Esther a map of Italy on one of our phones and instructed her to give Jasmine directions enroute. Annika was our flight attendant. It was so fun and cute.

Macy is five and a half months old! She is a pure delight. She's squishy and round, happy, and patient. Definitely our most pleasant baby. She smiles anytime someone looks her direction. She's just starting to laugh and talk more. She's pretty adorable. She sleeps pretty well too. She usually naps 3 times these days. Often two long naps (1-2 hours) and one short nap (40 minutes). She goes to bed for the night around 8. We usually sleep feed her before we go to bed around 10:15. And then she sleeps until around 4, eats, and goes back to bed until 7. She weighs around 16 pounds (maybe 16.5 now). She is not a fan of baby food yet. I have been putting rice cereal in her bottle before bed for about 6 weeks now. I was putting it in her last two bottles of the day. But it seemed to be making her poop an unnecessary amount. She was sleeping longer stretches consistently with those two rice cereal bottles. One bottle with rice cereal doesn't seem to make a difference now. Oh well. She still sleeps better than our other babies, are far as I can remember. She's not rolling over yet. She's been rolling up onto her side though for about a month. She doesn't seem too motivated to move at this point. And that's just fine with me. Oh and Tyson is so much more gentle with her now. That's huge. I still can't trust him alone with her. But I don't have to scoop her up every time he comes in the room. I think he sees that he can have fun and interact with her now. It was like he didn't know what to do, other than hurt her, to get attention before. Now he sees that she can use her hands to grab him and toys and she smiles at him. I know they'll be good friends someday.
