4 Months

So our Annika baby is 4 1/2 months old now. She is such a cutie. She has been so smiley this week. It seems like she will smile at anything her dad says to her. Annika loves listening to us sing to her and make funny noises. She has become quite vocal. I love listening to her coo and squeal.

At her 4 month appt she weighed 11.4 and measured 24 inches. She is definitely a petite baby. Her head circumference measured 16 1/2 inches (an increase of 2 inches in 2 months! I am amazed by that!)

Annika is pretty awesome at taking naps during the day. She usually takes a 2 hour nap in the morning and in the afternoon and a 1 hour nap in the early evening. We usually try to keep her up for 2- 2 1/2 hours after I feed her at 5 or 6. She goes to bed between 8:30 and 9:30 most nights. Night time sleep is not her forte. I guess it could be worse. She often wakes up between 1 and 2 am. I usually end up feeding her because she won't settle on her own. For awhile, I was putting her binky in several times, hoping that she would go back to sleep. I got tired of getting out of bed so many times, so now, I just feed her if she doesn't settle. She always goes right back to sleep and if I'm lucky she will sleep until 7. But, she sometimes wakes up around 5 to eat again. I wish she would sleep longer before her 1st feeding at night. I end up taking a morning nap with her most days. I am enjoying this luxury as I know my nap time will probably disappear when another child is added to our family someday.

She is very good at grasping things. I would say her favorite toy is her red ball. It has holes all over, which makes it very easy for her to hold on too. Everything that she grasps is quickly pulled into her mouth. We tried baby oatmeal cereal a few weeks ago (1/1). She has tried it several times since and she seems to be getting the hang of it. Although, a good portion ends up on her bib :) She's still working on it. She has also tried peas and apple sauce. I think her favorite part of eating anything so far is the spoon. She is more interested in chewing on that spoon than what's on it. My dad gave her some cake crumbs last night and it was funny to see how aggressive she became. I'm pretty sure she liked it.

We love our sweet Annika girl. She brings so much happiness to our home. It is so fun to see her grow and discover new things.

  3. I love love love the updates!! I totally get the "baby who doesn't sleep awesome at night" I had so many people tell stories of their babies sleeping like 10 hours at night when they were 2 months old. I don't believe any of them! All I'm saying is Annika sounds like a normal baby to me - and I'm glad you're enjoying your morning naps - I remember loving those too!
I know you're well taken care of but call me anytime if you need anything or just to chat! Love ya!

  4. What a sweet little girl. You mentioned she takes 2 two-hour naps morning and afternoon - For what it's worth , I've noticed that when Isaac takes long naps(anything over an hour and a half), he always sleeps worse that night...So lately I've been waking him up from naps if he's sleeping too long. Maybe it doesn't apply to Annika but I thought I'd throw that out there --
