A Change of Scenery

Back in July, David and I started talking about buying a house. Initially, I was opposed to the idea, thinking we didn't need a bigger space and that an apartment would be fine for another year. It's true that we don't need more space; a two bedroom apt is plenty big enough for the two of us. However, we came to the not so profound realization that if we are going to live in Othello for the next several years at least, possibly forever, and we have the means to purchase a house, and with these incredible interest rates, we might as well buy a home. We feel that it is wiser to invest in a home than pay rent each month.

So, one day in July, we decided to start looking at homes. We looked at 4 homes in Othello. Almost as soon as we walked into the 3rd home, I told David "this is the one." It still felt unnatural to be looking at a home with the intent to buy at this point in our lives. But, we also somehow felt good about moving forward with this home. So, we made an offer. They countered. We counter-countered. They accepted. David and I have perfected our full name signatures. And now, about a month and a half after our first offer, we will be moving in next week! We can't wait!

It's going to be a busy week- amongst packing, cleaning and moving, David will be working (grateful for no school on Friday for fair day, love it!), I will be working a part time job at Sunny Farms (a produce stand in Othello, so fun!), David will be crew shift leading for a shift at the Elephant Ear booth at the fair on Saturday (joy), we will be celebrating David's birthday (I love birthdays!) and I have a full day orientation for nursing school on Thursday (so excited for nursing school to start!). I would like to get in and paint the living room on Wednesday, before we start moving in on Thursday. This whole interior decorating thing is new and intimidating to me. We'll see how it goes.

So, here is a picture of our new place! It's not huge- 3 small bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 2 living spaces, a fabulous laundry room/pantry, and our favorite part- the backyard. I will post more pictures later. We're excited for this adventure of being 1st time homeowners! Any advice?
